20200110 Kent Town Hotel DRINK: KT Monkey TURN: Chad
Friday night and the biggest change of the year is that we didn't meet at the Elephant - shock and horror!!! We met in the upstairs bar at the Kent Town Hotel, the Rooftop Garden. Chad and Con were downstairs and came up soon after we arrived. We trialled out a few different seats, preferring to sit at the bar area where we sat for Mary Webb, last year.
Richard came after 6.30 and we ordered straight away.
Chad, Con, Stephen and myself all indulged in the KT Monkey beer - the drink of the evening. Richard stuck with the soda water. The reaction to the beer was that it was light and refreshing - 1 point up on Young Henrys (although its not as cheap!). I had an orange juice and water after my beer - my turn to drive :-)
Con wore a colourful shirt that I hadn't seen before, the pictures on it looked like a cross between a bicycle and a fan.
Stephen bought the chips which were cooked to perfection! We had tomato sauce rather than chilli sauce and of course, sour cream. Delicious!
Chad had the chicken wings as entree. It was a MASSIVE bowl of chicken... however, once the bones were taken out it wasn't so much. Stephen had a piece to help Chad out...
Stephen and I had the Calamari entree. A super small size. Nice enough...
Chad had the green curry with extra chicken. He thought the curry was the right temperature and he felt satisfied after the meal.
Stephen had the beef, lamb and chicken pie with mash. So much meat! Even so, Stephen found that something was missing to the meal - maybe vegetables.
Con had the Calamari and chips. As usual, when asking Con to comment afterwards he used his 'bahhh humbug' response. The seshiun flavour turned out to be a bit bland. Tasted just of salt and pepper.
I had the grilled fish and chips. As an afterthought, I ordered mushroom sauce which came about 5 minutes later. All in all, a decent serving and tasty, but nothing special.
Richard had a side of vegetables which came quite a while before his main. By the time the main came out, he'd eaten most of the veggies. He was kicking himself that he didn't ask for them all to come out at the same time. There was supposed to be lemon butter on the veggies, but he couldn't taste it.
For Richard's main he ordered quinoa salad with extra serving of chicken. The salad should have been a full plate, but was only half the dish as the chicken took up the other half. Richard thought the dressing was sickly sweet and thought it was too expensive for what it was.
We went downstairs to the Jungle cafe for coffees. Chad took the slide down (I wasn't brave enough!).
We paid Richard $3.50 each and he got everyone's coffees, but in hindsight should have asked for $4 each.
There were lots of kids running around even at 9pm at night. A very family friendly environment. A great place to hang out for a while.
Scores for the evening:
Richard - 8
Stephen - 7.5
Chad - 9
Con - 5
Elizabeth - 6
