It was my turn to choose this week and I thought I'd give the Maylands a go. I looked on Trip Advisor and apart from it saying in a couple of reviews that it was pricey for what it was, it still had a high scoring. Why not? Let's try it out.
Stephen and I got there just before Con and Chad. Con rode his bike to the venue. We scored a comfortable circular table with lots of comfy seats. It was at the back of the room with lots of dining tables around. It was a busy night tonight with a couple of big groups attending at around 6pm. The windows to the pub were all slid back and it created a nice breeze coming through.
Chad had the burger - 6 out of 10 - typical pub food
Stephen had the schnitzel with pepper sauce - again 6.5 out of 10 with a comment about typical pub fare.
I had the crumbed fish and chips with mushroom sauce - 5 out of 10. It cost $40! The most I've paid for any meal I think on a Friday night. The plate was only half full. The other half contained the salad and mushroom sauce.
Con had the squid and chips - 5 out of 10 from him. As usual Con doesn't say much when he hasn't enjoyed his food.
Richard had the hand-rolled pasta with a side serve of potatoes. He said it was lovely and would recommend it again. 8 out of 10 from him.
By the time we finished our meals the pub had quietened back down again with the big groups (especially the group with 6 children) left.
After the extortionate cost of the dinner, I decided to not pay the pub any more money and we went to Buorngornio. We sat outside. Again, was a 30 degree day - very warm. Con had a blueberry muffin, Richard had a chocolate brownie and Stephen and I shared an almond and apricot biscuit. Chad didn't have a coffee or dessert. Again, unusual for him.
