20200904 Bombay Bicycle Club & Fellini TURN: Elizabeth

We met at the Royal Oak Hotel on O'Connell Street, just a couple of buildings up from the Oxford.

Chad and Con were already there when we arrived. I had booked a table in the beer garden for 5 people, but were moved to a table inside because there was a party happening there.

The table where we were sitting had theatre style seats stuck together - 3 in a row each side. It was impossible to sit in the inside seats. Con and I were facing the kitchen and were watching all the party dishes that were coming out for the group in the beer garden. Meatballs in huge bowls, garlic breads and chips - yumm. I thought about ordering some garlic, cheesy bread but had second thoughts.

Richard arrived around 6.30 but there wasn't a seat for him. He didn't get a drink and stood next to the table. Stephen and Con finished their drinks and we left early to go to the Bicycle Club. Con went with Chad.

So what to say about the Bicycle Club (Kiplings restaurant) on Torrens Road?... Well...

It's a lovely venue - reminiscent of the Jungle cafe in the Kent Town Hotel, indeed they are owned by the same people. The decor was of a British Empire look.

We went through luscious curtains and were led to our table in the back corner. The menu was sumptious.

Richard, Chad and Stephen had the $38 tasting plate - all gave their meals 8 out of 10.

Con had the trio of curries and rice with naan bread - $34 - Con was less complimentary 5 out of 10

I had the barramundi curry ($27) with garlic naan. I gave my meal a 7.5 out of 10. I would have given an extra half point if the food had been warmer.

We had to wait nearly 1 hour for our meals but it wasn't so bad.

The woman sitting at the table next to us, on leaving, lent over to Con and said, 'wow' I don't know where you put all that food. I was watching you eat'!

We drove back to North Adelaide for a coffee. Stephen and I managed to get a park right outside (around the corner) and were there first. We ordered our flat whites. Nothing extraordinary to report. Just another pleasant evening. Definitely a novel experience. It's nice to go somewhere different...
