20210129 Sosta Argentinian Restaurant and Italy TURN: Chad

Tonight we met at the Elephant as usual and although Steve and Elizabeth were absent due to a recent trip to Sydney we had Patrick as a special guest.

After much discussion and drinking, we headed off to Sosta close to the Stag Hotel

It was a very nice looking place with large tables and the staff was extremely polite. As it is a little pricey I did expect this as they would be very hopeful of repeat visitors

They advised us that due to Chad's order it would be a delay on our meal as they like to bring all the food out at the same time.  30 minutes after this we all got our meal at the same time

They also let you order any cooking length on the meat  so if you wanted well done then that was not an issue unlike this fancy restaurant we were thinking of going to in Hutt Street

Albert

Lamb Chops  $35 and Young Henry’s lager $11

Adequate portion but felt it was just OK: Score 7

Con

Chorizo 17 Octopus 22

Con felt the size was big but the octopus was overdone: Score 6

Chad mixed grill $50 Argentinian lager

Chad said it was perfect and he was very happy: Score 9

Richard beef 45 salad $12

Very tasty and will come again: Score 8

Patrick scotch fillet $43

Perfectly cooked: Score 9

After the meal, we went across the road to Italy for a coffee.

Italy is rebadged from that Italian restaurant that had a beauty salon upstairs. none of us could remember the name

Richard felt the coffee was so good that we should go to the restaurant for a meal one day as I suspect the food would also be good

Albert playing around with Con's pour

we think that we should include more photos of us in the blog

as stated great serve for Con

Salad was a bit bland but that was what I ordered due to keeping the calories down

These tasted great and was for the table. any other day Steve or I would have polished these off but you know...calories

20210122 Mum Cha and San Churro TURN: Richard

Blog by Richard

I chose the venues tonight and I went to pick up Albert at about 5:25 and he gave me a “I survived 2020 Covid 19 commemorative coin, which he had for everyone. Thank you, Albert

We got to the Elephant at about 5:40. Con and Chad were there but not Elizabeth and Steve as they were still in Sydney

After a few bevy's and some discussion about politics, we headed to a new restaurant at about 7 pm.  Mum Cha is an Asian restaurant on Rundle St and at first appearance, it looked like a bit of an upmarket Dumplings r us further up the street

It was hot outside but beautifully cool in the downstairs part of the restaurant.

The service was impeccable as the servers were quick, polite, and very knowledgeable about their product. We asked for the entrees and mains to arrive at the table at the same time and they came back to us with a note from the Chef saying that it was not possible. I had thoughts of La Taberna last year but thankfully their service was very fast and the mains were very quick after the entrees

Here is what each of us had with score and review

Con

Prawn dumpling

Hainanese chicken and rice

Con’s score was 5 as he felt it was not flavorsome enough although it was an adequate amount

Albert

Prawn and chicken wonton

E-Shan Eggplant

Albert gave them 6.5 and also thought it was filling but just OK

Chad

Pork belly pancake

E-Shan Eggplant

Salted caramel pan Dan

Chad’s score was 7 and he also enjoyed his special entree and thought the dessert was great but he was just too full at that point

Richard

Prawn and chicken wonton

Hainanese chicken and rice

I gave it an 8. My wontons were in a soup and I then used the soup to add extra flavour to the main meal. I also used all the condiments as well chili and hoisin sauce. The chicken came with Bok Choy as well which I love

I tasted Chad’s dessert as well and would definitely get one if we ever came back

Afterwards we went to San Churro for some coffees and hot chocolate and the gang then got into my car and i took them all home !!

20210108 The Walker's Arms TURN: Albert

Albert was late booking the venue this week so we could only score a 6pm sitting and we needed to leave by 7.30pm.

They had the demisters spraying mist through the top vents onto the outside area.

Stephen and I arrived around 5pm with Chad arriving 5.15 and Albert and Con arriving at 5.30. We were all seated in our booth by 6pm knowing what we wanted

Elizabeth - Crab cakes entree with triple cooked chips (hand cut) and mushroom sauce - 8.5 - the flavours were there and it was a delicious meal

Stephen - Chicken schnitzel and chips with peppercorn sauce - 5 (adequate for not great)

Chad - Fish and chips - 7 - comment was 'it was alright'

Con - Chicken wings and greek salad 8 - comment was too many chicken wings :-) The sauce was splattered all over his face. It took 3 napkins to clean it up

Albert - Veal schnitzel and chips (no sauce) - 7 - comment was ' nothing special, nothing good nothing bad'.

We ended with having a coffee for Stephen and myself with a tea for Albert. Albert offered to pay for us which was nice of him.
